About the Department

Basic Economic Theory

Microeconomic Theory and Macroeconomic Theory are included. These courses emphasize the training of basic economic theory and lay the theoretical foundation for relevant applications.

Quantitative Analysis

Econometrics I and Econometrics II are included. These courses teach students the essential concepts and methods of quantitative analysis, along with economic applications with statistical or econometric softwares.




Applied Economic Analysis

Applied Microeconomics, Applied Macroeconomics, and other elective courses such as The Economics of Uncertainty and Information, Applied Micro-econometrics, Economic Development and Income Distribution, Central Bank Policy, Industrial Organization in Theory and Application, Exchange Rate Determination and Financial Economic Analysis, International Trade and Regional Economic Integration, Applied Econometric Analysis, Energy Policy and Analysis, and Environmental Economic Analysis and Application are included. Besides the theoretical explanations in applied microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis, these courses also deal with the applications of economic rules to real world. Through applying the methods of econometrics, students will be familiar with the procedure of testing economic theories.




Seminar

The graduate institute offers students three semesters of required seminars to attain the teaching goal of the ability for analyzing economic problems. Seminar I principally leads the students into the fields they are interesting to study and trains them for the ability to observe economic environment. Seminar II and Seminar III invite scholars of all economic fields and specialists with practical experience to give lectures of specific economic topics. Through understanding how they to determine the goal of study, to choose the adequate approach, and to run the study work in reality, the students will set up the foundation of investigation and writing of their theses. The courses also require the students to present their work of study topics or theses periodically for wide and valuable discussing.




About us

The Department of Economics at Tamkang University began offering classes in the night college in 1980, and established a formal department in the university in 1986. Currently, the department has 16 full-time professors, with approximately 720 undergraduate students. The department offers a four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Economics. 

Core

The department offers a core of theory courses including intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as specialized courses in econometrics, money and banking, economic development, financial economics, and labor economics. Students are required to take a minimum of 86 credits of required courses, along with 42 elective credits, in order to graduate.

Emphasizes

The department strongly emphasizes research and has a significant number of faculty members involved in projects funded by the National Science Foundation of the ROC. The department also regularly holds conferences dealing with the economic problems of Taiwan. 

The Graduate Institute of Applied Economics

The Graduate Institute of Applied Economics was established in 2001. Its teaching objectives are to train students to have a professional knowledge of Applied Economics and a strong ability for further study and employment; furthermore, we stimulate the students' enthusiasm and ability for advanced research.
